We know choosing a care home is one of the biggest decisions a family can make. Here are the answers to the questions we hear most often. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to call us, we’re always happy to talk.
We run three care homes, all based in and around Fulwood, Preston, The Brooklands, Fairmont, and Oxford House. Each home has its own character and team, but all three share the same values: warm, personal, family-centred care.
We provide residential personal care for older adults, including long-term placements, short-stay respite care, and support for residents with dementia or other complex needs. Our focus is person-centred support, care built around the individual, not a fixed routine.
Our homes are intentionally small. Each has capacity for 24 residents. We believe smaller homes allow us to provide the kind of personal, unhurried care that larger providers often cannot, where every resident is known by name and every preference is remembered.
Yes. All three of our homes are registered with and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England. All our homes are currently rated ‘Good’ by the CQC. You can view our reports directly on the CQC website.
There’s no single answer. Signs that residential care might be right include difficulty managing daily tasks safely at home, increasing risk of falls, social isolation, or a diagnosis needing more support than can be provided at home. We’re happy to have an honest, no-pressure conversation about whether one of our homes would be a good fit.
Absolutely, and we encourage it. We welcome families to come and see our homes, meet the team, and get a feel for the environment. Call us or use our contact form to arrange a visit at a time that suits you.
We encourage residents to bring personal items that make their room feel like home, photographs, ornaments, a favourite chair, bedding, or artwork. We’ll advise on anything unsuitable for safety reasons, but generally: the more personal, the better.
This varies by circumstance. In straightforward cases, we can often arrange a place within a few days. If there’s an urgent need, for example following a hospital discharge, call us directly and we’ll do everything we can to help quickly.
Yes. We offer respite and short-stay placements, and many long-term residents first came to us for a short stay before deciding to make it permanent.
Fees vary depending on the level of care required and the room chosen. We’re happy to provide a personalised guide when you get in touch, and we aim to be transparent about costs from the start.
Our fees cover accommodation, all meals and refreshments, personal care, laundry, and access to our activities programme. We’re always clear about anything outside the standard fee before costs are incurred.
Depending on your relative’s financial situation, they may be entitled to local authority funding, NHS Continuing Healthcare funding, or Attendance Allowance. We recommend speaking with your local council’s adult social care team and, if possible, an independent care-funding financial adviser.
Every resident’s day is different, that’s the point. We don’t run a fixed timetable. Residents can join activities, spend time with friends, have visitors, rest in their room, or simply enjoy their own company.
Quizzes, bingo, dominoes, jigsaws, sing-along sessions, music and movement, indoor games, crafts, cake decorating, and regular trips out, plus live entertainment throughout the year. Activities are always optional.
Yes, and we actively encourage it. There are no fixed visiting hours, we just ask you let us know about extended or group visits so we can make sure everything’s comfortable.
Yes. Residents are free to go out with family or friends, and we encourage independence wherever it’s safe to do so.
Meals are freshly prepared and served in our dining rooms. We cater for a range of dietary needs and preferences, and mealtimes are social occasions, not a canteen experience.
Each home has a dedicated team of care staff, supported by a home manager overseeing day-to-day operations. All staff are trained to provide compassionate, person-centred care.
We review each resident’s care plan regularly and work closely with families, GPs, and other healthcare professionals to make sure support keeps pace with changing needs.
Our staff are on-site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In a medical emergency, we follow established procedures including contacting emergency services and notifying the family as quickly as possible.
The easiest thing to do is call us or send us a message using the contact form below. We’ll have a relaxed, no-pressure conversation about your situation and help you work out whether one of our homes might be right for your loved one.
